Maypole Dancing
We wanted to tell you about the tradition of maypole dancing.

This is an interview with a Reception Year child (aged 5) who took part in some maypole dancing at our school.

Child: I am going to tell you about maypole dancing.

Teacher: What does it look like?

Child: It has got a big pole with coloured strings down.

Teacher: What do you do?

Child: You listen to music. You skip around the pole in a circle.

Teacher: Did you enjoy the dancing?

Child: Yes

Teacher: Did you do it on your own?

Child: No, all of Class 5 could do it together.

Teacher: Well thank you for telling us about maypole dancing.

If you want to see what maypole dancing looks like have a look at our picture. There are also lots of maypole photos on the internet.

'Coca de recapte' recipe

COCA DE RECAPTE

INGREDIENTS:
You need

- 250 gr. of bread dough (with flour, water, oil and salt) or 1 pack of pizza dough.
- 1 red pepper barbecued or roasted in the oven.
- 1 aubergine barbecued or roasted in the oven.
- 1 sausage (called 'botifarra') barbecued or grilled /salty herring / canned tuna.
- olives.
- olive oil.
- salt.

PROCEDURE
1- Roll out the dough using a rolling pin.
2- Barbecue a little the vegetables and when they are ready peel them and cut them in thin strides (using your hands).
3- Put the vegetables on the dough combining pepper and aubergine strides.
4- Put the "coca" into the oven and bake it for 15-20 minutes until the dough is cooked.
5- Meanwhile, grill the sausage or prepare the herring in strides and without bones.
5- Remove the "coca" from the oven and put the sausage or the herring or canned tuna on the top.
6- Eat it cold or warm.

This is a very traditional dish from the area. Some researches show that the "coca de recapte" was invented before pizza and it was during the catalan invasion of Italy that italians started to prepare pizzas imitating the catalan "coca de recapte" recipe.

We also used a drawing program on the computer to create pictures of our favourite places in Horsforth and Leeds - you can see some of them at the top of our blog. If you have any questions about Horsforth or Leeds then please let us know.
This is our school.
